Any Time is Garden Time

One of the garden projects I made this summer used an old round piece of wood, some old garden hand tools, some screws and glue.   Now I just need to come up with a way of fastening it to a wall.

While cleaning out the well cupboard we found this old round wooden piece which I think was part of a cable spool. It measures 60 cm or two feet across. It was inside a big piece of plastic and covering the old sump pump hole.  A few years ago the sump pump was replaced and this old piece of wood just got propped against the wall in the well cupboard.  This year that cupboard got cleaned out and the wood was finally brought upstairs and into the garden.   Every time I passed it in the garage I wondered what it could be used for.

I also had a lot of old garden hand tools that were either on the fence as part of a display or piled into the old mail box that holds the hand tools.  Im not sure if these tools could be called vintage but they have seen lots of use in the garden over the years.

I tried arranging the tools around the wooden piece.  Some of the tools had the handles broken off and some had handles that were too long.

I arranged and re-arranged the 12 tools … kind of like a clock or perhaps a wheel of fortune.  No matter when you spin it it always stops on garden time.

Finally I got the right arrangement and my wonderful husband drilled them into place.

There was already a hole in the centre of the wood so I glued on an old wooden finial from an old garden umbrella.  Nothing gets thrown out at our house just in case there is another life for it as something else.

Right now it sits on the garden bench under the arbour.  I’d love to have it hanging on a wall somewhere, just haven’t figured out which wall.

Since putting this together I have seen a few similar ideas in different places on the internet.
