At The Fly Thru Feeder

Categories: 2sDay and Birds.

The latest feeder is really popular with the birds.  I’m calling it the fly thru feeder as the birds can get right inside to enjoy the seed.  Perhaps it should be fly-thru like the drive-thru restaurants. The downy woodpecker lands on the outside and peer inside. It has mesh all around, inside and out, and there are opening so the birds can get right inside. The grosbeak likes the outside and inside. The young female grosbeak peeks out of one of the openings. The little chickadee flies right to the inside for a snack.  This one is not as clear

Categories: 2sDay.

It’s 2sDay and time for photos of two of the same things. Today is another rainy day, so I dug back in the photo archives to find some photos to share. This one was taken a year or so ago when the goldfinches were snacking on the seeds of the cosmos plant. This one was taken in April 2017 as the goldfinches were turning to their summer yellow. This one was taken at the beginning of May 2017 … much more yellow. Goldfinches are year round visitors to the garden and enjoy food from the various feeders, even  the hanging

2sDay Blooms May 30, 2017 It’s 2sDay and time for photos of 2 of the same thing. This week I have 2 photos of 2 different blooms in the garden. These deep purple tulips were planted a long time ago and haven’t bloomed for a few years.  It was lovely to see two blooms open this year. The mountain bluet spread quite a bit from last year and promises lots of blooms.  Here are the first 2 that opened a few days ago. With the nicer weather arriving I will be spending less time posting and more time out and

2sDay Doves

Categories: 2sDay and Birds.

2sDay Doves May 16, 2017 It’s 2sDay and time for photos of 2 of the same thing.  This week it is doves. Doves, or mourning doves, are frequent visitors to the garden all year round.  They are a light brown/grey colour with long tails. They have a distinctive coo-ooo-oo call.  Pairs stick together and often return to the same areas year after year. Doves are frequent visitors to the flat feeder but mostly you will see them on the ground cleaning up the spills of seed. More 2sDay photos
