It’s Daycation Time

Categories: Daycation.

It’s Daycation Time I love it when the weather gets warmer and we start going out for daycations.  Our first one for this year was a trip to Niagara Falls.  To be rested up when we get there we take a bus trip as it’s about a 3.5 hour drive from our house.  Maple Leaf Tours (formerly McCoy Tours) had a half price special so we had to take advantage of that. It was a glorious day, clear blue skies, sunshine and temperatures close to 15 Celsius.  When we had booked the trip the forecast was for rain but as

The Old Hastings Gallery

Categories: Daycation and Out and About.

Ormsby is a little village off Highway 62N at Highway 620. Listed as one of the ghost towns of this part of Ontario with a population of 20 (there abouts) it has two amazing places to visit. The Old Schoolhouse Tea Room is a delightful place to stop for lunch or afternoon tea after a visit to The Old Hastings Mercantile and Gallery. This store, originally the General Store for the area,  has so many interesting and fascinating things for sale tucked into every nook and cranny available.  I wouldn’t want the job of dusting! Each room has its own theme from

The Old Ormsby Schoolhouse

Categories: Daycation and Out and About.

I love the summer when we take lots of daycations in and around our area.  Recently we stopped at the Old Ormsby Schoolhouse for their educated dining.  This was an old one room schoolhouse that is now a restaurant that serves lunch, afternoon tea and dinners. What a delightful place to visit.   Before ordering lunch we spent quite awhile looking at all the displays that were set up. I have always found old school houses fascinating, probably because I was a teacher and love all things historical. The inside of this old one room school, closed in the mid

The Daycations Begin

With the nice weather we like to get out and about and explore our area where we live by taking daycations. We thought we would take advantage of a lovely Tuesday this week and take our first daycation this spring as the rest of the week is sleety and rainy.  I love free publications and we get Country Roads and Watershed for finding interesting places to visit.

The Royal Winter Fair

Categories: Canada, Daycation, Ontario, and Out and About.

At the beginning of November we took a daycation of a different sort … we took a bus trip to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.  The Royal is held in Toronto every year and is a huge attraction.  This was our first organized bus trip, and we enjoyed it immensely and would definitely take another trip to a different destination. We travelled with McCoy Bus Tours.  We got on the bus at our local mall at 9 am and arrived at the fair just over a couple of hours later.  What a view from the bus … sitting so much
