Rock Stacking

Categories: Crafty's Projects and Out and About.

I love the challenge of stacking rocks to see how high they get before toppling over. I also love to photograph rock stacks on our travels. The above and below images were taken on a trip to Presqu’ile Provincial Park. Wicklow Beach is a favourite place to walk, enjoy the water, and collect rocks to paint and stack. These small rocks were glued together and are used in the garden with some of my other rock projects. This rock stacking project led me to create some painted stacked rocks and will be left at various places where we go rock

Painting Birch Trees on Rocks

Categories: Crafty's Projects and Out and About.

My adventures in rock painting led me to painting birch trees on larger rocks. Birch trees are always something I have wanted to paint and I’ve read lots of info on creating them on canvas but just never got around to it. The rock was about 15 cm (6 inches) high and came from my favourite place to collect rocks at Wicklow Beach. On a lovely September day we went to the beach, which was only occupied by a large groups of gulls. First was to make sure the rock was clean and then give it a base coat front

The Ecology Garden

Categories: Out and About.

One morning we headed out to Cobourg, to pick up a special order at our favourite British store, to walk the beach and hopefully find some lake glass, and to make our first visit to the Cobourg Ecology Garden. One piece of lake glass we found was marked Heinz Co with the number 255 on it. Some research on the internet found a list of glass codes by the Heinz company. This one was from a 14 ounce ketchup bottle made between 1918 and 1943. Wow, it is an old piece and will be kept with all the other glass

An Enjoyable Break

Categories: Crafty's Projects, Eye on the Sky, Out and About, and What's Been Happening?.

We were so lucky to have a week away at a cottage recently. How wonderful to sit by the lake, watch the wildlife, watch the sunset, go for leisurely walks and enjoy the sounds of the lake lapping on shore. The cottage was right on the lake front and we could see the most glorious sunsets in the evenings. Other cottagers and campers would flock to the lake front to view the sunsets. Who could blame them. Even though it was hot during the day it was so lovely to sit by the campfire at night. There were a few

Wicklow Beach

Categories: Out and About.

~ A day out at Wicklow Beach towards the end of June was amazing.  This beach is a lovely, long stretch of water and shore, mostly rocky. It was a clear, calm day with hardly any visitors to the beach. Just walking beside the water and listening to it lap onto the shore is so peaceful. The rocks are lovely and flat on both sides and perfect for stacking or skipping into the water. These lovely flat rocks would also be perfect for mandala painting or other types of rock painting. One of my projects this year is based on

Common and Hooded Mergansers

Categories: British Columbia and Out and About.

~ Ducks are usually so obliging when you want to take photographs unless they decide to dive under the water as you click the shutter button or they turn their head just when you think you have the perfect shot or they are a long way out of range or the lighting isn’t quite right and the photos come out dark.  Well okay, maybe they aren’t so obliging after all. I’m lucky to have a few good photos of the common merganser and the hooded merganser.  Some are from out trips to British Columbia and some are from local spots like

Whiffin Spit Christmas Tree

Categories: British Columbia and Out and About.

Whiffin Spit in Sooke, is a favourite walk of ours while visiting Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We are spending Christmas with out family in Langford this year.  Even though it is Christmas we are still doing lots of touristy things. Each year one of the trees along Whiffin Spit is decorated for the season.  Decorations are saved each year by wonderful volunteers and rehung the following year.  Anyone can add a decoration to the tree. This is the first year we have seen it decorated as we are usually here at differnt times of the year. When our grandson
