stress bag made with rice

Stress Bags -  a lovely gift to make.  You need a piece of fabric about 15 inches long and 6 to 7 inches wide.  The best types of fabric are cotton or towelling. Fold material in half and stitch around the edges leaving the end open. Tuck edges in and stitch down the middle of the bag.  Fill each tunnel with rice (not the quick cook type).  Add cinnamon sticks, rosemary, tea tree oil (for healing), chamomile, flax seed, peppermint, rosemary or aromatherapy oils. Stitch the end closed. Warm by placing in microwave for 1 or 2 minutes.  Check as temperature depends on your microwave.  To use cold - place in ziplock bag and put in freezer for 2 hours or more.

The picture of the stress bag shows one that is an ideal shape to wrap around the back of your neck.  But they can be made in many shapes and sizes.  Get creative - design some of your own.

This is a different shaped stress bag that I have made.   It fits around the neck and rests on the shoulders much better than the straight one.   The pattern is like a large letter C.  It measures about 15 inches long but has the extra ends that will sit on your shoulders.  At the widest part it is about 8 to 9 inches in width.  Put right sides of fabric together and stitch around the edge, leaving a small opening to enable you to turn the bag right side out.  Fill with rice and add any scented items you want.  Handstitch the opening shut once filled.  Follow directions above for warming and cooling.

Stress Balls

1/2 c salt
1 c flour
1 T oil
1 t cream of tartar
1 c water
3 or 4 balloons for each ball

Mix dough ingredients together it a pot and heat until doughy, stirring constantly.  Remove from pot, knead till smooth then leave to cool for about 1/2 an hour.
Take 3 or 4 balloons and cut most of the neck off each one, so you just have the round bit. Pack some of the dough into the first balloon. The more you pack into one balloon, the less squishy it will be.  Put this balloon inside another
balloon, hole first (so that the second balloon covers up the hole in the first one). Continue until you have used the 4 balloons. After you put the last one one, pinch up a little of the balloon and tie.

A much quicker way to make a stress ball is to use icing sugar.  Pack it into the first balloon until it fits into your hand. Add the remaining balloons and tie the last one.  When you feel stressed out just hold the ball and squeeze it as hard and as much as you can.
