Crafting for a new grandson

Blanket

What fun I had making this round ripple afghan in blues and white.  I used Bernat Softee Baby yarn and a pattern I found on the net.  If you search round ripple afghan you will find several version of this pattern.  I've seen it made in red and black yarn to look like a Spiderman web ... that will be fun to do when the little guy gets older.

Bibs

These were quick and easy to make up using cotton yarn.  I found some basic patterns on the net (search bibs and you will find all sorts).  I then added my own edging to fancy them up a bit.

Sweater

I have just completed this sweater for my grandson. I knitted it in the 6 month size so that he will be able to wear it this winter.  The pattern was from Brunswick, Buttons and Bows. The yarn used was Scheepjes Roma Print. It is a lovely soft, self striping yarn. The pattern took just under 100 g. of yarn.

I really enjoyed knitting this pattern as it was knitted all in one piece ... no stitching fronts and backs together and having all the edges curl.

And finally after all my years of knitting I found a good way to pick up stitches to add the button band. I could never get the right number of stitches that the pattern called for and the stitches always got stretched out of proportion. But at knitty.com I found a way to do it, and it was so simple, it's one of those things that you say, now why didn't I think of that.

The pattern called for toggle buttons but I couldn't find any the right size, but found these lovely round buttons and they were just the right colour. There aren't any button holes, but small loops that you crochet.

This was a fun project to do and only took a couple of days. I will certainly knit it again, and when using a different yarn and buttons it will look totally different.

The pattern for this knitted hat is coming soon.
