December is going by quickly. Are you ready for the holidays? Here are five random things that have been going on this week.I just have to cook the turkey and do a bit more baking. I’m not one to leave things to the last minute and last weekend finished up a couple of sewing projects. Of course I can’t show you as the recipients might be peeking at my site. The cards were printed and mailed out. A few gifts have been delivered and others have been put in the mail. My trust has been put in Canada Post to get these delivered on time and in perfect condition. I learned how to make a gift bag out of wrapping paper. It was so easy I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.
Each year the Quinte West fire department, who are mainly volunteer fire fighters, travel the streets and collect food for the local food bank. It has become a tradition to see the flashing lights and hear the honking horns as they come over the hill and head down the fire station which is at the bottom of our road. Along with the neighbours we always give a donation of food to this very worthy cause.
Wow, we are having unusual weather for December. Warm temperature records are being broken for this time of the year. The grass is so green we keep teasing it might need cutting soon, especially with all the rain we have been having. I love it like this but know there are people that want snow and I do admit a bit of snow would make it seem more like the holiday season. Here are my five favourite garden areas and if the trees and trellises weren’t bare you would never know it was mid December.
A female downy woodpecker has been checking out the front birdhouse that is usually occupied by sparrows. These photos were taken through the front window on a dull day. Every few days she flits in to check it out but hasn’t taken up residence yet.
I haven’t been able to post much or visit friends online lately as our internet connection has been so slow – slower than a snail in molasses! But today the internet provider came by and fixed up the problem. We got switched from a 4G tower to an LTE tower, which according to them is faster. At first that didn’t fix the issue, so after trying a few things the technician checked the grounding wire and it seems that was also a problem. It has one buffer on it but he added another and presto in came all my favourite places on the internet. We don’t realize how much we come to expect quick service until it stops. So now I can connect from any of my devices.
I’m sharing with Five on Friday. It’s a great group of people that participate each week so be sure to stop by and visit some of them, or better still, why not join in yourself. This will probably be the last time for participating till the new year. To all those visitors that stop by from Five on Friday I wish you a very happy, and safe holiday season with your family and friends. See you next year.
