Here is a quick and easy gift to make for the bird watcher that you know.
It doesn’t matter if the person is an experienced birder or a brand new one, this gift will bring hours of enjoyment.
You need a mason jar, bird seed, paper or material, raffia or ribbon, a suet feeder and a block of homemade all season suet.
Into the mason jar layer different types of bird food … sunflower seeds, safflower, peanuts in the shell, hulled peanuts, and premium bird seed. Add a paper or material cover over the jar lid and tie with raffia or ribbon. I went with the natural look and used brown paper and raffia.
Recently when I made up some all season suet I made some in block shapes that fit the wire basket feeders. The wire basket feeders can be purchased at Walmart or Lowes or other stores with bird departments in them.
I attached a copy of the all season suet recipe because once the birds taste it they will want more and the recipe means the bird watcher can make their own. I printed the recipe on photo paper so that it will be more sturdy and last longer.
It isn’t an expensive gift but one put together with the recipient in mind. I know I would love to get this sort of gift.
I got this idea after making my gift jars of bean soup. The jars come from Classico spaghetti sauce and I save them for all sorts of uses. Do you have a bird watcher on your gift list who would appreciate a gift like this?
Here is the recipe card. It is turned sideways so it can be printed on photo paper but you could also use card stock. Be sure to save the image to your computer, and then choose the correct printer settings. I used glossy paper, 4×6 photo size, and scale to fit the paper. I can see a preview before printing so know if it is going to turn out right. Your printer may be different and only you will know which settings to use. I hope you are able to get it to print properly.
