Grape Vine Obelisk

This obelisk makes an intersting and practical feature for your garden.
Set this into your garden among the flowers or let some morning glory vines grow up it.

This year I set up the grape vine obelisk in a large container and planted morning glory seeds.  The vines have reached the top and I'm now in the process of twisting and training them to go down a bit before they go up again.   The blooms are just beginning to open.

Turn 4 bamboo poles and some grape vine into a grape vine wreath obelisk.

To start with I placed the bamboo canes into a container of dirt just to hold them steady.   Starting at the bottom I began to wrap the grape vine around the canes.  Be sure to wrap the vine around each cane as you work as this will help stop the wreath from slipping down.  Continue working till the wreath is the thickness you want.  I prefer to work with fresh cut grape vine as it bends and twists much easier.

Then leave a space and start another wreath a bit further up the canes.  The height of the canes will determine how many wreaths you will make.  The higher you go the smaller the wreaths will be. I used thinner vines for the top of the project.   It can easily be moved when finished as the wreaths hold the canes in place.

Let your imagination guide you.   Use a different number of canes.  Use a different shape.
