Dendritic Painting

Categories: Crafty's Projects.

~ Dendritic painting is a technique I learned at Creative Crafting.  This is a simple way to create amazing designs on paper and artist board. Dendrites are actually nerve cells and  dendritic painting is creating branch like effects using glass, paint and an artist board. Supplies:  acrylic paint, two small sheets of glass or 2 cds (depending on the method you choose to use, artist board, paper towels, patience You add paint to glass, press another piece of glass on top and then carefully pull them apart.  This creates the branch/tree like effect.  You then press the glass onto an artist board or

CD Scratch Art

Categories: Crafty's Projects and Whimsy.

~ If you are like me you have an abundance of CDs.  There was a time when you got all sorts of them with free programs, or you have a lot of old ones from computer storage.  I’m a saver, and have a big box full of them.  I’m always trying to use them in whimsical craft projects. The latest idea I tried was scratch art.  I remember doing this type of craft years and years ago in public school.  You coloured a sheet of paper in all different colours and then coloured the whole thing over in black.  With

Stained Glass Keychimes

Categories: Crafty's Projects and Whimsy.

~ I’ve been making garden whimsy with old cd’s for a long time.  One o the first things I made was some key chimes. Unfortunately the old cds and the weather aren’t good companions and the shine of the cd starts to wear away.  The keys get all twirled together and after awhile it gets hard to untangle the fishing line.  So it was time to repair and upcycle the key chimes once again. The old key chime was made of 2 cds glued together, keys and fishing line.  This time I used one of the stained glass cds that

Stained Glass CD

Categories: Crafty's Projects and Whimsy.

~ Turn an old cd into a stained glass decoration. Here is another project I am working on.  Take the old cds you have and start to strip off the shiny part.  You score it just a little bit and then use some wide sticky tape, the stickier the better.  Press the tape onto the shiny part and then pull quickly, and presto the shiny part starts to come off.  Do it over and over until you are left with a clear disc. Trace the cd onto white paper, two per page.  Draw your design.  I did mine freehand so

CD Starburst

Categories: Crafty's Projects and Garden Projects.

~ This cd starburst reminds me so much of the clocks from the 1960’s.  It was another great project shared with us by Gail at Creative Crafting.  You need 2 cds, some bbq skewers, paint, items to embellish, paint, and a glue gun. The first thing to do is trace the cd onto paper and then add the spoked, making sure you cross the centre point each time. Lay one cd onto the grid.  The long bbq skewers were painted black (thanks Heather) and then laid onto the lines.  I used shorted sticks that I had painted a turquoise colour

Upcycle a Solar Light

Categories: Garden Projects and Whimsy.

~ On Friday mornings I have started going to a craft session at our local Sport and Wellness Centre with my friend.  Each week there is a different craft to make and you also get to meet some new crafting friends.  The first week we went the session said it was using CD’s.  Thanks Gail for sharing this idea with us. We made a reflector for a solar light using CD’s, gems, and other sparkly bits that would reflect the light once it got dark.  You glue two cd’s together, shiny side out.  Be sure to let the glue dry

Repairing the Key Chimes

Categories: Garden Projects and Whimsy.

I love the sound of wind chimes in the garden … metal ones, bamboo ones, large ones and small ones. This is one of my favourites made from old cds and old keys.  All you need is 2 old cds, fishing line, old keys, glue and a drill.  First glue 2 old cds together, shiny side out. I use E6000, but any strong glue that is good for outside will work. Drill a hole in the top center for adding a loop to hang it with.  Drill holes in the bottom to fasten on the old keys.   I have 7

Garden Danglers

Categories: Whimsy.

Every garden needs a little bling.  I love creating things from wire, marbles, old cds, keys and more.  Danglers will sparkle in the sun and are only limited by your own imagination. This garden suncatcher is made using copper wire, marbles, flat marbles and 2 old cd’s.  Hang it in the garden and watch the sun reflect off the cd. Using Crafters Goop glue the 2 cd’s together (shiny side out).  Be sure to let this dry and then drill 4 holes (one at the top and 3 at the bottom).  Using copper wire (purchased from hardware stores) make the 4
