What’s in the Garden? – C

Categories: Alphabetical Gardening.

The alphabetical garden tour this week shares wha’s in the garden starting with C – birds, plants, whimsy and more. My favourite bird has to be the cardinals that visit all year round.  This link will take you to lots more cardinal photos. Lots more birds that start with C visit the garden … crows, cowbirds, cedar waxwings. And then there are those adorable little chickadees that flit in and out and really are people friendly.  They cheer up the garden in winter. There are lots of lovely plants beginning with c … coreopsis, cosmos, clematis, calendula, celosia, coneflowers, coral bells,

Spoon Chimes

Categories: Garden Projects and Whimsy.

I just love tinkling sound of chimes in the garden. The latest addition is some spoon chimes. Many years ago I used to collect souvenir spoons from all the different places we visited when we were living and touring England. Family and friends also sent me spoons from different locations. I used to display them on spoon racks, not sure if they are even popular anymore. For the longest time the spoons got stored away in the cupboard and never used. Inspired from seeing some spoon chimes on a show we love to watch, (Sign Sealed and Delivered or sometimes

A Driftwood Keychime

Categories: Garden Projects and Whimsy.

~ I love making garden whimsy to display in various spots in the garden.  While recovering from my knee replacement surgery I had lots of time to think, create and craft. Using a piece of driftwood from Wicklow Beach, some colourful beads, some keys and fishing line I created a driftwood key chime.  The first task was to change the keys from plain to colourful with some acrylic paint. This took a couple of coats but the paint did stick finally.  I always paint on wax paper so the table surface doesn’t get messy and it is also easy to

Stained Glass Keychimes

~ I’ve been making garden whimsy with old cd’s for a long time.  One o the first things I made was some key chimes. Unfortunately the old cds and the weather aren’t good companions and the shine of the cd starts to wear away.  The keys get all twirled together and after awhile it gets hard to untangle the fishing line.  So it was time to repair and upcycle the key chimes once again. The old key chime was made of 2 cds glued together, keys and fishing line.  This time I used one of the stained glass cds that

Repairing the Key Chimes

Categories: Garden Projects and Whimsy.

I love the sound of wind chimes in the garden … metal ones, bamboo ones, large ones and small ones. This is one of my favourites made from old cds and old keys.  All you need is 2 old cds, fishing line, old keys, glue and a drill.  First glue 2 old cds together, shiny side out. I use E6000, but any strong glue that is good for outside will work. Drill a hole in the top center for adding a loop to hang it with.  Drill holes in the bottom to fasten on the old keys.   I have 7
