Removable Hanger Covers

Categories: Coat Hanger Crafts and Crochet.

Over the long and hot summer I did some crochet sitting in the shady spots in the garden.  One of the most popular posts on my site is the crochet covered coat hangers and it seems no matter the time of year folks are always hunting for this pattern.  I decided to change the pattern up a bit this time and make them removable with ribbon or velcro. I made the two halves of the pattern, a printable version can be found here. A visitor to my site  mentioned ages ago that she did her own adjustment to the pattern to make them removable.  I

A Bit of Flag Whimsy

Categories: Canada, Coat Hanger Crafts, Garden Projects, and Whimsy.

Even though I haven’t been posting much I’ve been busy creating crafty things for the garden.   One of those things was a Canadian flag made using odd bits of material and a coat hanger. Judith shared a shabby chic flag that she made and it got my mind thinking about making one.  Last year I made some garden flags with the grandkids and they turned out lovely and now flutter in various spots in the garden.   I decided to use paint again and some bits of material from the craft closet from other projects. I love it

Upcycle the Plastic Coat Hangers

Categories: Coat Hanger Crafts and Sewing.

Upcycle those plastic hangers in your closet. It’s the time of year to start thinking Christmas gifts.  Even if you don’t want to think about it, you know that the time is coming, so why not be prepared for it.  Gifts don’t have to cost a lot of money and something homemade is greatly appreciated. A quick and easy craft is covering those plastic hangers that everyone has in their closet.  You need plastic hangers, 1 metre of material (which is enough for 5 coat hangers), quilt batting, thread and trim.  If you have any scraps, this is a great

Braided Covered Plastic Hangers

Categories: Coat Hanger Crafts.

One of the most popular posts on my site is the one for braided coat hangers … an old craft that is becoming popular again.  I have a pattern available to print that is my version of a pattern shared with me many years ago on a crafting bulletin board.  I never knew where the original pattern came from until a little while ago when a visitor to my site let me know it was originally by Qualicraft. I did a search and found someone selling that pattern booklet on etsy … and better still this seller was in Canada.

Covered Hangers

Categories: Coat Hanger Crafts and Crochet.

Here is another way of covering plastic coathangers that I created.  This is a simple crochet method and doesn’t take long at all to complete.  The fiddly part is joining it around the hanger, especially where the hooks are and where the corners are.   I decided to leave the hanger hook free so that it hangs better in the closet.  For this hanger cover I used a variegated Red Heart yarn and a 5 mm crochet hook. This is a wonderful way to stop clothes from slipping of those plastic hangers. Materials: -Red Heart yarn or an yarn of

With the print friendly option you can choose how much or how little you want to print, just mouse over the text for the option to delete. Images can be included or not. Do you remember the old craft of braiding long strips to make a cover for a wire coat hanger? The original material was Nylotex or Phentex, a stretchy, nylon material. It is getting increasingly hard to find. Old crafts are becoming popular again. The original pattern is by Qualicraft.  A version of those instructions were shared by SusieQ on a crafting bulletin board several years ago.

Scarf Storage

Categories: Coat Hanger Crafts and Organization.

Do you love to accessorize with chiffon scarves – But have a difficult time storing them? I’ve got a storage solution for those slippery scarves. I had tried folding them and putting them in a drawer, but then you tend to forget about them, and when you take out one you tend to mess up the others. I tried just hanging the scarves over the coathanger. But even though they are very light they still tended to slip to one side or the other. While chatting with a friend she mentioned her mom had added loops to a coathanger to

Crochet Covered Coathangers

I have a huge collection of coloured, plastic coat hangers and wanted a way to cover them.  I’ve seen a few different versions of this hanger and have adjusted the pattern I was given to suit myself. A lovely lady at a flea market shared the pattern with me. I haven’t seen this pattern in any crochet booklets but I’m sure it must be printed somewhere.  If you know of the original source please let me know. Edit December 5, 2015: Thanks to a visitor to my site, WeeBeastie, I now know this pattern was published in Annie’s Crochet Newsletter, Nov-Dec, 1989 and

Braided Wire Coat Hangers

Categories: Coat Hanger Crafts.

Do you remember the old craft of braiding long strips to make a cover for a wire coat hanger?  The original material was Nylotex or Phentex, a stretchy, nylon material. I’m not sure if it is still available in stores, but it does turn up in thrift stores from time to time.  You could use long strips of material or even extra wide ribbon.  Old crafts are becoming popular again.
