The Kestrel and His Prey

Categories: Birds.

~ The American Kestrel has been spotted a couple of times in and around the garden. Here it is just after it landing on top of the light pole.  We live in the country so don’t have the usual number of street lights that urban areas have.  In fact this is the only light on our part of the road just across from the house, which we pay for. The kestrel has obviously captured some prey and was sitting on the post enjoying a nibble.  I cringed a little when I realized he had captured something, thinking it might be

Stained Glass Keychimes

Categories: Crafty's Projects and Whimsy.

~ I’ve been making garden whimsy with old cd’s for a long time.  One o the first things I made was some key chimes. Kabouli Black Chickpeas

Categories: The Garden 2017 and Vegetables.

~ I love going to Seedy Saturdays and am always on the lookout for new and interesting seeds to me that I can try growing.  Last year I picked up some Kabouli black chickpeas to grow in the kitchen garden.  The kitchen garden is a series of plant tables my husband made to raise gardening to my level after knee replacement surgery.  I use all sorts of containers, at least a foot deep, to grow veggies and herbs. The Kabouli chickpeas are an Afghani type which gives black chickpeas. They were planted in a large container on  May 14, 2017 and

What’s in the Garden? – K March 11, 2016 We are March-ing right along into the month with items in the garden that start with K.  Friday’s Hunt is the letter k, a favourite and a flower this week. The kitchen garden is a big part of my garden.  I grow tomatoes, potatoes, beans, peas and lots more.  My husband made me three plant tables a few years ago and most of the veggies grow in large containers.  These are right by the deck and it is easy to pop out of the kitchen and pick some fresh food for meals.

K is for Kitchen Garden

Categories: Plants and Vegetables.

K is for Kitchen Garden. Every year I grow a big kitchen pot garden.  I’ve collected various large containers to grow my tomatoes, beans, peas, onions and potatoes in.  There is nothing so tasty as fresh veggies picked right from outside the kitchen door.     … lots of fresh beans … lettuce ready to add to a salad or a sandwich … fresh peas that are best eaten right out of the pod … lovely home grown potatoes … scarlet runner beans, a reminder of England … tomato plants with onions for companion plants … a delicious bowl of
