An Enjoyable Break

Categories: Crafty's Projects, Eye on the Sky, Out and About, and What's Been Happening?.

We were so lucky to have a week away at a cottage recently. How wonderful to sit by the lake, watch the wildlife, watch the sunset, go for leisurely walks and enjoy the sounds of the lake lapping on shore. The cottage was right on the lake front and we could see the most glorious sunsets in the evenings. Other cottagers and campers would flock to the lake front to view the sunsets. Who could blame them. Even though it was hot during the day it was so lovely to sit by the campfire at night. There were a few

Beauty at Season End

Categories: Eye on the Sky and What's Been Happening?.

~ On October 23 in the morning we woke up to a red sky.  Take warning says the old weather saying.  We knew that rain was heading our way in the next day or so. The leaves are coming down quickly and just over the weekend we raked and bagged several large bags of them and took them to the landfill. The temperatures were still close to 20 Celsius, absolutely glorious for this time of the year.  I’ve been cutting greenery from the garden, the back fields and the landfill.   I always take the garden cutters when we go

Heading into Fall with the Fence Garden

Categories: Eye on the Sky, Garden areas, and The Garden 2013.

Here we are heading into Fall.  We have been spending time getting the gardens ready for winter by trimming, moving, adjusting and more.  It is also time to compare the fence garden from last year and this year. Here is the fence garden in September 2012.  Looks like I had cut everything back already and thinned out a few things.

Goodbye July

Categories: Eye on the Sky and The Garden 2013.

July is coming to an end.  What a month it has been … heat, humidity, thunder, brief downpours, but no steady rain. Last Friday night we had terrific thunder and wind storms.  Thankfully that took away the awful humidity and left us with temperatures around 25 Celsius … so much better for being outside. Harvesting the veggies is in full force this week.  Yummy sweet tomatoes and fresh green beans.  Nothing tastes better than home grown. The wonderful daylilies are coming into full bloom … the yellows, peaches, reds, pinkish. The tipsy pots are still doing really well and needed

A Busy Week in the Garden

Categories: Eye on the Sky and The Garden 2013.

The weather was nice and much warmer at the beginning of the week .. but we have had lots of wind, rain and thunder.  And now it has cooled down again, in fact it was downright chilly at our granddaughter’s first soccer game last night. Last weekend was a long weekend, but when you are retired every weekend is a long weekend so it doesn’t make much difference to us any more.  What I love about the long weekend is the extra day of cheap rate electricity.  In my part of Ontario we are on TOU (time of use) rates
