A Whimsical Weekend

Categories: Garden areas, The Garden 2019, and Whimsy.

I’ve added some whimsy to the garden this weekend. I’m working outside in chunks of time as this is my really bad allergy time and it is non stop sneezing and nose blowing. I have quite a collection of garden frogs that are displayed by the bridge in front of a big clump of daylilies. I made a little sign, can’t remember where I first saw this saying, but thought it was cute. At one time I did have a ceramic toad but it either got broken or misplaced. I’ll have to hunt for a new one to complete the

Do You Name Your Gardens?

Categories: Garden areas and The Garden 2014.

~ Do you name your gardens?  I do, nothing fancy but usually related to something in the garden or the location of the garden. This just helps to keep the areas straight in my mind or if I’m talking about them to someone else.  Here is a quick peek into the garden areas. These photos were all taken at 6 pm.  The fence garden is doing well after some changes.  Some wooden edging was added after it was resized a bit.  Last year I followed this garden on a monthly basis to track the progress. The shady front garden, seen in

Heading into Fall with the Fence Garden

Categories: Garden areas and The Garden 2013.

Here we are heading into Fall.  We have been spending time getting the gardens ready for winter by trimming, moving, adjusting and more.  It is also time to compare the fence garden from last year and this year. We continue to work behind the scenes on the fence garden … emptying the composters.  There is a possibility that a new garden shed might go behind the fence, but then again it might go into a totally different spot. Here is the fence garden in September 2012.  Looks like I had cut everything back already and thinned out a few things.

Focus on the Fence

Categories: Garden areas and The Garden 2013.

It is time to compare the fence garden from 2012 to 2013.  This image was taken a bit later in the month last year but is still good for comparison. It was dry last year, as you can tell by all the brown leaves that dropped from the poplar trees at the back of the garden.  Some of the plants had already been cut back. Here is the garden this year … plants are taller, changes in the garden whimsy.  The wanna be grass or green stuff as I refer to it has just been cut so the brown leaves

The Fence Garden in July

Categories: Garden areas and The Garden 2013.

It’s that time of month to compare how the fence garden is growing.   During 2012 I took a photo about the same time each month and now I’m taking one each month during 2013. It is very interesting to see the comparison of plants, of the whimsy added to this area, and how much fence you can actually see. There are a few noticeable changes from 2012 to 2013 to the garden decor and there is a bit more fence showing last year to this year. The flag in 2012 had a watering can on it.  This flag is

The Fence Garden in June

Categories: Garden areas and The Garden 2013.

It’s that time of month to compare how the fence garden is growing.   During 2012 I took a photo about the same time each month and now I’m taking one each month during 2013. It is very interesting to see the comparison of plants, of the whimsy added to this area, and how much fence you can actually see. Here is the garden in June 2012.  It was an early start to the gardening season last year and things got off to a great start.  The heliopsis is nearly to the top of the fence.  There are some daisies

The Fence Garden in May

Categories: Garden areas and The Garden 2013.

I started out with this great idea of taking a photo each month, on and around the 25th of the month, to see how the fence garden looked in a comparison to 2012 and 2013.  I just have to remember to post about it now so that I can compare the seasons from year to year. Here is the fence garden in April 2013.  It was in 2012 that I forgot to take a photo so I had nothing to compare it to.  The leaves have been raked off the garden and you can see a few plants poking through.

The Fence Garden

Categories: Garden areas and The Garden 2013.

I started out with this great idea of taking a photo each month, on and around the 25th of the month, to see how the fence garden looked in a comparison to 2012 and 2013.  I posted about the January comparison and I was looking through the March photos I realized I forgot to post about about February. So now it is time to compare February and March photos from 2012 and 2013. Here is the garden in February 2012 … lots of snow all around. We looked a little worse than last year for February.  In fact the snow
