Whiffin Spit Christmas Tree

  Whiffin Spit in Sooke, is a favourite walk of ours while visiting Vancouver Island, British Columbia. We are spending Christmas with out family in Langford this year.  Even though it is Christmas we are still doing lots of touristy things. Each year one of the trees along Whiffin Spit is decorated for the season.  Decorations are saved each year by wonderful volunteers and rehung the following year.  Anyone can add a decoration to the tree. This is the first year we have seen it decorated as we are usually here at differnt times of the year. When our grandson

Shore Birds at Whiffin Spit

We loved taking a lot of different walks on our trip to British Columbia this past July.  We are always on the lookout for birds that we don’t see here in Ontario.  This time we spotted a couple of different shore birds on a walk at Whiffin Spit. There are so many varieties of shore birds and many of them have similar features.  Some have very distinguishing marks and are easy to identify.  Some we saw were harder to put a name too.  Our daughter out west has been searching through their birding books.  I’ve been searching the internet and I

Black Oystercatcher

One of the many things we did while on vacation in BC was look for new lens friends.  And we weren’t disappointed. One of the first things we noticed was that long orange beak, something we hadn’t seen on a bird before.  We were visiting Wiffin Spit, by Sooke, British Columbia, Canada when we spotted the black oystercatcher.
