Christmas is Coming

Categories: Christmas.

The festive season just seems to sneak right up on us. Having homemade decoration or gifts or gift wrapping makes it all the more special.  With less than a month to go, time is getting scarce and I may not publish as many posts of the site as usual.  This is a collection of the various crafts and decorating ideas that have been previously shared on my website.  I hope you find an idea or two to make yourself. The Button Wreath

Categories: Christmas.

~ The button tin/jar holds an assortment of buttons in all sizes and colours. You can spend a long time reminiscing as you let the buttons fall through your fingers.  But sometimes there just isn’t enough of the colour you want to make a craft, so it was off to the dollar store where they sell bags of buttons in various colours. A layer of batting was added to the cardboard circle and then the whole thing was wrapped in white ribbon.  Around the outside a strip of lace was glued on. My wreath is about 23 cm. across and with the addition of

A Mini Wreath

Categories: Christmas.

~ Christmas crafting started a week or so ago at our Creative Crafting group.  Here is a little mini wreath made from a curtain ring, some twine, little bits of felt, some red berries or sequins and glue.  This can be used as a Christmas ornament on the tree or as a gift topper. The curtain ring is about 7 cm or 2.5 inches in diameter. I’m showing the ring with a Toonie, the Canadian two dollar coin in the middle to give you an idea of the size. It already had a ring at the top to attach a

A Pinecone Wreath

Categories: Christmas, Crafty's Projects, and Garden Projects.

~ I’m a  collector and can’t resist picking up pine cones in all shapes and sizes.  I love to use Nature’s treasure to create projects for inside and outside our home.  I have had a pinecone wreath for several years now and by adding little accents it changes for the seasons. This one starts with a wooden circle that my husband cut out for me out of light ply wood, about 30 cm. in diameter and 5 cm wide for glueing on to.  This photo shows the back of the wreath as I didn’t take photos when I made this

How to Make a Rake Wreath

Categories: Garden Projects and Whimsy.

~ Goodbye summer, hello Autumn. Where does the time go?   Autumn is a wonderful season of colours, sights, smells and tastes.  I’m not really a big decorator for seasons but will be putting up a wreath or two.  It is time to get out the Autumn wreath made out of an old rake, some ribbon and some artificial coloured leaves. While cleaning out the garage one summer I discovered we had 3 rakes and as there are only 2 of us that can use 1 rake each at the same time I decided to create a rake wreath. There

Boots and Bumbershoots

Categories: Garden Projects, The Garden 2018, and Whimsy.

~ Bumbershoot is the old fashioned name for umbrella. I love unusual words.  I decided to turn that umbrella upside down, add some spring things and make a bumbershoot display instead of the traditional wreath.   I have several umbrellas but didn’t want to use one for the display because I will most likely need it for those rainy days that will be coming soon.  A trip to the dollar store is always fun and this time I was looking for an umbrella.  I had recently purchased some forsythia branches thinking I would do a wreath.  I added some ribbon that

Making a Shell Wreath

Categories: Collections, Crafty's Projects, and Nature Crafts.

~ I’m a collector of many things and one of those things is shells.  I can’t resist picking up shells when we are visiting British Columbia.  Over the years I’ve collected so many in different shapes, sizes and varieties.  Usually they are just stored in a basket on the deck.  But after awhile even the basket gets full and you can’t appreciate the shells.  This year I decided to make a shell wreath out of them. The first task was to sort the shells in different types and sizes. I’ve got mussels, scallops, clams, periwinkles, hornshells, mudflat snails, limpets, oysters

Little Wreaths

Categories: Christmas and Kid's Crafts.

~ Little wreaths are wonderful to attach to a gift, to wear as a brooch, to decorate the tree, or decorate the table.  Over the years I’ve made a few different little wreaths.       I love little projects that you can start and finish all at once.  This curly wreath from Planet June was one of those projects. Using a small amount of two different greens and an even smaller amount of red yarn this little wreath made up while watching my favourite British tv show, Coronation Street.  The finished wreath is about 7.5 cm across (just under 3 inches
