Zucchini Bread

It’s that time of the year when zucchini are starting to be plentiful in the garden,  this year I didn’t grow my own, instead I’m relying on the farmers markets and farm road side stands.   I use a tried and true recipe from a Hasting County International Plowing Match cookery book from 1986.  These types of books are usually sold as fund raisers for various churches and organizations.

I love these types of recipe books as you know that the contributors have made all the recipes many times over, perhaps they are even old family recipes passed down.  I haven’t bought any for ages but I’m sure they are still produced.  I’ve got a few cookery books like this, do you have any?

 One of my oldest is one my mum had when I was born.  I still use some of the recipes from this book.

This is the recipe I use for my zucchini bread.  I do cut the water down a bit as it is a very moist bread from the zucchini and raisins.

Cool, slice, add a bit of butter and enjoy with a cup of tea.

Get creative when there are lots of zucchinis around.

  1. Love the recipe books . All looks good all though I am not fussy on zucchini I cant seem to acquire a taste for it but if I was I would be all over the recipes lol ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !

    • When the zucchini is blended into the recipe, it really doesn’t taste the same as when cooked on its own. Too bad you aren’t closer I’d pop you a bit over so you could try it out. It’s delicious with a cup of tea 🙂
      It’s been hot and muggy here today and quite overcast but no rain so far. I’ve been cooking peas and beans from the garden and making the zucchini loaf from one of the first zucchinis from the farm.

    That is a great cookebook, the pumpkin loaf as well as the Zucchini loaf sound like they would be good.
    It is a good time of year for lots of freah veggie and fruit.

  4. I’m always a little suspicious of recipes like these. Is the surprising vegetable in there because it makes the loaf delicious or is it there because someone once had too many and bunged them in for the sake of doing something.

  5. Weather – I’ve just moved from Dorset where it’s traditionally hot and sunny to Halifax which is renowned for being cooler and wet. Yet we have had a lovely sunny week here in West Yorkshire while in Dorset there have been heavy rains and even storms. A fortunate welcome to a new home.     Looks delish…I make the Parmesan cheese one a lot….the whole family loves it!
    I also add it my veggie lasagna….
    I will see if I have any left on the vine at the cottage…for some unknown reason they were all falling off!?!
