This is always such a busy time in the garden. The ground is nice and damp, but still cold, from the rain which makes it perfect for digging. A lot of time has been spent edging the front gardens in the past couple of weeks. We’ve also bought mulch so that will be going on soon.
The middle left shows the before, the top and bottom left show the marking out so a straight line is dug and the right shows one area all neatly finished. Growing in this area are iris, daylilies, lavender, lady’s mantle, poppies and astillbe.
Now there is room for more plants … gotta love that!
The front diamond garden also benefited from a good edging.
In this area are yucca, tulips, daffodils, iris, purple coneflower, grasses, coreopsis and coral bells.
The tulip buds are big and fat and showing some tinges of colour. The photo on the left is of the pots of tulips bulbs I planted up last Fall and the one on the right are tulips growing in the front diamond garden.
The daffodils are blooming, but not as many as last year.
There has been lots of trimming going on too. A really old climbing rose in the trellis garden area was unruly and showing very little signs of growth so it got trimmed and trimmed until we decided to just remove it completely. What a prickly mess that left.
I’ve been pottering on my plant tables. All the containers are now full of soil, I’ve planted some peas and took a chance on planting a few tuber roots. I’ve purchased a few plants … cherry tomatoes, fuchsia, spearmint, lemon balm and lavender but they haven’t been planted yet as there is still a slight risk of frost. I’ll put them outside during the day and into the garage over night for a bit of protection.
I love to share my garden … online via photos … and in person with the extra plants. We save the containers from cat litter which are perfect for filling with plants and giving to other gardeners. So far this spring I’ve given away lots of garlic chives, Jerusalem artichoke roots, coreopsis, daylily and hens & chicks. I can’t seem to give the dandelions away though :)
Do you share your garden on sites like Freecycle or Kijiji? or have you been the recipient of shared plants.
I’m sharing with Cottage Garden Party.
