The stories about James Herriot, the vet, are wonderful.

The Yorkshire Dales are the setting for these heart warming stories. In 1937 James Herriot is a fully qualified vet, and is setting out on his first job in the Yorkshire Dales.

The first book I have combines the four previous books of If Only They Could Talk, It Shouldn’t Happen to a Vet, Let Sleeping Vets Lie, and Vet in Harness. These books were originally published in the early 1970’s

I loved the first tv series and didn’t think they could ever come up with a remake that would be good. But they have found the perfect actors to play the main parts and I’m looking forward to the second series. The scenes in the Yorkshire Dales are amazing, makes me want to visit again. My husband grew up on the Yorkshire Dales and it reminds him of his childhood.

James Herriot is the pen name for James Alfred (Alf) Wight, an English veterinary surgeon and writer.

The tv series is an updated version of the books and the first tv series. The first series just finished and that is what prompted me to reread these favourite books.

These two books are lovely collections of cat and dog stories. Who can forget Tricki Woo?

It is one of the few series that I enjoy made into a tv show. Usually there are so many changes it is hard to recognize the stores. I’m already looking forward to the second series in this tv show. Until then I’ll continue to read the books.

I LOVE the remake! I have the 1st season on DVD now, thanks to Amazon, also have watched it on both PBS stations that I get. The actors are wonderful, true to the characters, IMO, and Nicholas Ralph is so, so good (they all are). Plus the scenery is incredible, of course. *Happy sigh*

I have the cat stories – with a polite thank you note from my great-niece, who borrowed it as a little girl (Now she is a departmental head at school)

We have travelled thru that countryside too.
